For thousands of years, the undisturbedGreat Western High Plains stretched from modern-day Texas to the Canadian Shield. In this vast areagrew dozens of varieties of rich grasses, lone cottonwoods, willows, oaks and drought-resistant wooded shrubs. This painting depicts such a moment on theKansas Plains before the pressures of over-grazing and plowing radicallyreduced the rich grasslands. Almost none of these acres remain in their natural state. They are lost forever. However, the Kansas weather remains aswide openand wildas it ever was. Prairie skies with wet clouds such as these in the painting are a sign of the coming fall and a goodbye to late summer heat. GICLELL PRINT IMAGE by Matthew Richter 13X14 inches.
